Hydrogen stations: Germany will lead Europe

Hamburg hydrogen station

As of today, there are 15 stations selling hydrogen in Germany. Our illustration shows the one in Hamburg, and the small fleet of hydrogen cars which uses them has already covered more than two million kilometers. Time to move forward, this will happen in two steps.

First, the existing network will grow to a hundred stations. This shall happen by 2017. Then within ten years, in 2023, there shall be 400 stations in the whole country. The project is backed by the Organization for hydrogen and fuel technology technology which counts the following companies as members: L’Air Liquide, BMW, Daimler, EnBW, Ford, GM/Opel, Hamburger Hochbahn, Honda, Hyundai, Intelligent Energy, Linde, Nissan, Shell, Siemens, Total, Toyota, Vattenfall Europe and Volkswagen.

We shall note that even if the organization expects to get some public funds to achieve its goals, this project is between private hands.
